<p>Losing weight is a difficult process. Those who are most successful at it learn to balance several different areas of their lives effectively. The truth is if you want to change your weight and your health, you need to take a look at your current lifestyle and make changes in all aspects of your life. You can change the way you eat, and embrace new philosophies, but until you change the basics, the weight loss will not stick.</p>
<p>Change Your Eating Habits</p>
<p>Smoothies are a great way to make sure you are getting the right amount of nutrients each day. You can add a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to your smoothies, plus any supplements you need, which will help you stay balanced as you lose weight. But if you do not address the rest of your diet you will still have a problem achieving and maintaining real weight loss. Many people will go on a smoothie diet for just breakfasts or for two meals a day and then eat dinner. It is important that you are making the best possible choice for any food that you do choose to eat. Choose lean meats when you do eat meat. Also you should watch the number of carbs you eat each day. It is okay to celebrate with your office on birthdays, but make sure your portions stay small and you keep a healthy balance with all your food.</p>
<p>Rest and Relaxation</p>
<p>If you are serious about losing weight, you need to make sure you are getting enough sleep. When you sleep your body rebuilds any damaged cells. And if you are lacking sleep it is more likely to hold onto any extra weight you have or make you start gaining weight. Taking care of yourself physically means getting your rest, but you may also want to look at your stress levels. If you are stressed out, it is harder to lose weight. Try to change some of the activities you do to ones that help you relax. A walk around the block each evening can help you relax and shake off the stress from work, and it can provide you with additional exercise.</p>
<p>Add Exercise</p>
<p>If you have not worked out in a few years, it may be intimidating to start exercising. You can start small and work up to more effective workouts. If you are unsure about your physical condition, you can go to your physician and get cleared for exercise. You may also want to consider getting a physical trainer, because he can guide you and monitor you to make sure you are not pushing yourself too hard. This will help prevent injuries. A personal trainer is great at helping your push yourself to train hard, but should also help you stay safe while doing it. Exercise is a part of any healthy lifestyle, and if you are serious about losing weight you will need to make it a part of your daily routine. You may start out by walking around your block, and then adding on another block, and then another. If you are consistent and try to increase the intensity overtime you should be able to lose weight.</p>

<p>The Paleo Diet, or <a class="zem_slink" title="Paleolithic diet" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleolithic_diet" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank">Caveman Diet</a>, is gaining momentum in the fitness world as a healthful way to lose pounds. My tutor is all about the <a href="http://www.paleodietfoodlist.net/paleo-diet-food-list/">paleo diet food list</a> — a meal plan based totally on the diet habits of our Paleolithic, cave-dwelling ancestors. We&#8217;re talking wild game, protein, and seafood, and veg, fruit, seeds, and nuts. What you will not find as an element of the Paleo Diet are foods that developed during the rural and economic ages like grains, dairy, legumes, processed sugars, and any other fast foods.</p>
<p>Given the Paleo Diet&#8217;s low carb leanings, it makes sense that it&#8217;s rising in popularity as an effective way to lose pounds. On the calorie meter, protein, vegetables, and fruit give a large amount of bang for the buck, and getting rid of grains, treated sugars, and legumes can significantly drop someone&#8217;s daily calorific consumption. The real question is whether the Paleo Diet is healthy and can be sustained for the long run.</p>
<p>Despite its increasing popularity, the focus and underlying philosophy of the Paleo Diet isn&#8217;t weight loss. Developed in the &#8217;70s by a gastroenterologist, the Paleo Diet is offered for improving a person&#8217;s general general fitness. Paleo Diet adherents say the human body hasn&#8217;t evolved to deal with the foods developed since the rise of agriculture, and, due to this, we&#8217;ve become more at the mercy of health issues, particularly digestive (IBS, indigestion, and both gluten or lactose related intolerance, to name a couple). To control these abnormalities, it&#8217;s argued that we need to move back to our hunter-gatherer roots. Both diet consultants and those in the area of medicine are split on the legality of this argument, and making the merits of this back-to-nature diet fuzzier are many studies, which show support for each side.</p>
<p>Evolutionary disagreements aside, weightloss has been a standard (and infrequently welcomed) complication of those following the Paleo Diet. Time to be real, when&#8217;s the last time you saw a cavern painting of a fat Neanderthal? Studies continue to show that a diet rich in protein and low in carbs is perfect for weight loss, and, not like the bacon-fueled low carbohydrate diets of the &#8217;90s, the Paleo Diet promotes a large range of healthy proteins without being too meat-centric. Since hunting and fishing are not viable choices for most of us, the stress is put on store-bought grass-fed protein, wild seafood, and organic eggs. Compared with factory-farmed protein, grass-fed is leaner, free of antibiotics and hormones, higher in omega 6 and omega 3 trans acids, and less sure to carry E. Coli strains. While all fruits and vegetables are allowed (unlike earlier versions of the Paleo Diet), it&#8217;s encouraged to avoid fruits with a high glycemic index rating. Besides animal protein sources, fats in the Paleo Diet come from seed-, vegetable-, and nut-based oils and fruits like avocado and coconut. What the Paleo Diet does continue to exclude are dairy, grains and pseudograins (like quinoa), legumes, starchy veg, ready-made foods, fruit juice, refined sugars, and high-sodium foods. Beyond weight reduction, the Paleo Diet can also be a good elimination diet to follow if you&#8217;re looking to see if you have got any sensitivities to gluten or dairy. (Make efforts to reintroduce gluten and dairy slowly so you can see how it might or might not affect you.)</p>
<p>In terms of sustainability, I am on the fence, usually given the fantastic benefits of whole grains, legumes, and low-fat dairy. There are some approaches to the Paleo Diet that allow for a small amount of grains, however even in these examples, the diet is no dairy and very low grain. If you do start on the Paleo Diet, be careful about eating high-fibrous, calcium-rich fruits and vegetables and taking a multivitamin to help supplement the RDAs for nutriments (like vitamin D) that you may fall shy of on the diet. It&#8217;s also critical to make sure you are getting enough calories since it&#8217;s likely that calorie counts are going to be much lower when your diet is composed mainly of lean protein and plants. Like any suppressive diet, the Paleo Diet will require a touch more thought when it comes to eating out or meal planning.</p>
